Nucor’s plate mill group manufactures the widest range of grades, gauges, widths and lengths of steel plate products in the industry, customized to meet each customer’s precise specifications.
With an annual capacity of approximately 3.5 million tons of cut-to-length and discrete plate, our three domestic electric arc furnace (EAF) plate steel mills extensively monitor each steel plate product throughout production to ensure superior quality and customer satisfaction.

We offer the highest quality steel plate sizes from 3/16” to 18” in thickness, 48” to 170” inches in width and 120” to 1,550” in length with a maximum piece weight of 50 tons.

This additional process customizes our steel plate products by altering the physical properties of steel, resulting in heat-treat carbon and alloy discrete plate. Our NuHeat® and NuArmor® products can meet a diverse range of critical plate specifications with multiple heat treatment options.

Nucor Wide Floor Plate is a newly developed and patent-pending floor plate product featuring a lug height of 0.020” to 0.04” that provides 4-way anti-slip, low trip hazard, improved wear resistance, enhanced mechanical properties, and improved surface finish. It is designed for safe walking and working surfaces in dusty, oily, or wet environments where hazardous conditions exist. The wider widths available from Nucor can lead to lower handling and fabricating costs as well as a more attractive finished product with fewer seams. The plate can be readily cold-formed and welded using conventional equipment and good shop practices.

Treatments & Finishes
Annealed
Softer, more ductile steel plate that is heated, held at a specific temperature and then cooled at a controlled rate for improved machinability.
Normalized
Steel plates are heated to an elevated temperature and then air-cooled, improving uniformity of properties and strength.
Quenched & Tempered (Q&T)
High-strength, wear-resistant plate resulting from rapid cooling (quenching) and controlled reheating (tempering) to enhance durability.
Stress Relieved
A heat-treated steel plate that reduces residual stresses and improves stability, machinability and performance.
