Welded wire mesh reinforces concrete pipe, tunnel, bridge and commercial building projects with grids of prefabricated, high-strength welded wires that can be customized to accommodate various styles and dimensions. 

Nucor offers a variety of tie wire products, including pickle and limed (or borax-coated) wire rod, as well as black annealed tie wire. Chemically cleaned wire rod is commonly used as a substitute for banding to bundle products like rebar and MBQ. Black annealed tie wire—typically in 9 or 12 gauge—is used to tie and bundle fabricated rebar for transport to job sites. 

Nucor wire products are manufactured using high-quality, sustainable, American-made steel using an electric arc furnace (EAF) and meet ASTM standards. In addition, the Nucor team provides you with certified mill test reports confirming the chemical and physical results included in every shipment. 

Bright basic wire is a cold-drawn steel wire with a shiny finish and higher tensile strength since it has been cold worked. Wire has many applications and is found in numerous industries including construction, automotive, lawn & garden, retail and more.  

Nucor produces bright basic wire (drawn wire) that is used across multiple industries including retail (point-of-purchase displays), lawn and garden and concrete reinforcement (rebar supports) to meet a wide range of customer applications. 

Nucor manufactures bright basic wire in low carbon grades, including 1006, 1006B (the B stands for Boron), 1008, 1010, and 1018. Additionally, Nucor manufactures medium carbon grades including 1035, 1045, 1055, and 1541. We meet all ASTM steel wire standards. 

Some common products made with bright basic wire include shelving and wire racks, POP displays, wire frames, dowel baskets, tomato cages and interior automotive components.  

Pencil rod is straightened and cut wire rod often used in construction projects. It measures ¼” in diameter and is typically cut into 20-foot lengths.  

Straight and cut (S&C) wire is steel wire rod that has been cold drawn into bright basic wire. It then goes through a straight and cut line and cut into specific lengths and diameters (typically smaller than ½” inch). 

Welded wire reinforcement (WWR) or wire fabric (or remesh) is a steel reinforcement structure for concrete manufactured by welding plain or deformed cold-rolled steel wires at intersections to form a grid or a pre-bent form to fit the geometry of a structure. WWR provides tensile strength and customization to concrete structures and is commonly used in foundational slabs, pavement and precast concrete to prevent or control cracking. 

Mine mesh is welded wire mesh designed for underground support in the mining industry, where it is fastened to the walls and ceiling of tunnels to hold back loose rock and scale. Nucor’s mine mesh is manufactured to the highest mining specifications for durability and stability.  

Construction or building mesh is a welded or woven grid-like wire mesh used for reinforcement in concrete. 

Engineered structural mesh (ESM) is a high strength, prefabricated welded wire structure manufactured with precise specifications for structural design requirements. Common applications for ESM include bridge decks, industrial slabs, precast products, tilt-up walls and other heavy industrial uses to improve reinforcement in concrete applications.  

You might see an order like the following: 4×4, W2.9/2.9, 8×20 the 4×4 means four inch by four inch spacing of the longitudinal and cross wires. The W2.9/W2.9 means the .192” or 6 gauge for both line and cross wires. Lastly the 8×20 is a sheet 8 feet wide and 20 feet long. 

The ‘W’ stands for smooth (or plain) wire while the ‘D’ stands for deformed wire, which has surface indentations to enhance bonding with concrete. For example, W1.4 stands for smooth wire with a diameter of 0.134” or 10 gauge and D11 stands for deformed wire with a diameter of 0.374” (also the equivalent size of #3 rebar). 

Epoxy and galvanized coatings (hot dip and pre-galvanized) are available for most Nucor wire mesh products. 

A proud member of the Nucor family of brands, Laurel Steel operates out of a 350,000-square-foot facility in Burlington, Ontario. Our product range includes welded wire mesh, wire forms, and cold drawn wire. Outside of wire products, Laurel manufactures cold finished bar. 

Nucor LMP in Missouri manufactures bright basic wire (chemically descaled) in low and medium carbon grades including: 1006, 1006B, 1008, 1010, 1018, 1035, 1045, 1055, and 1541. We offer both industrial and plating-quality wire. We also produce bright basic wire (mechanically descaled) in Connecticut, Ontario, and Utah.
