Precision and Strength for Challenging Applications
Cold-Finished Steel Bar
Nucor manufactures a full range of cold-finished steel bar shapes, sizes and grades for today’s most demanding applications. Our cold-drawn steel undergoes additional processing after the steel is hot rolled, which results in improved surface finish, straightness, mechanical properties and machinability. Nucor’s cold-finished products are derived from special bar quality (SBQ) steel, which undergoes rigorous testing and quality certification during production.
Our in-house technical service team of metallurgists and engineers provides ongoing product support, helping customers with solutions from purchasing through project finalization. Plus, our vertically integrated cold-drawn facilities provide excellent geographic coverage and customer support.

Quality
By delivering products with precision tolerances and smooth surface finishes engineered to your specific needs, Nucor is dedicated to meeting and exceeding industry standards.

Sustainability
Through our circular EAF steelmaking process, Nucor helps customers reduce their emissions impact and achieve their sustainability goals.

Reliability
Nucor offers a broad range of cold-finished bar products and sizes with readily available inventory throughout our locations in North America.

Annealing
- LP Anneal (Lamellar Pearlitic): Improves formability and machinability, performed prior to cold finishing.
- Stress Relief Anneal: Performed after cold finishing. Reduces residual stresses from those processes, and when performed to meet ASTM A-311, improves machinability and mechanical properties.
Non-Destructive Testing
- Eddy-current Testing: A non-destructive testing method that utilizes magnetic fields to inspect steel bars for surface imperfections.
- UT Inspection (Ultrasonic Testing): Ultrasonic Testing (UT) is a non-destructive testing method that utilizes high-frequency sound waves to inspect steel for internal imperfections.
Precision Sawcutting & Chamfering
Nucor offers precision saw-cut or chamfered (sloped or angled) ends to meet your specifications.
Quench & Tempered (Q&T)
Quench and tempered (Q&T) steel undergoes a heat treatment process to enhance its strength and toughness. This involves rapid cooling, quenching with water or oil and reheating to reduce brittleness and relieve internal stresses, resulting in tougher, more resilient steel. Nucor produces Q&T steel to ASTM A193 and ASTM A434 standards.
