We Don’t Just Work Here. We Live Here.

Part of Nucor’s mission is to be stewards of the communities where we live and work. That mission takes many forms. This is a collection of a few of the thousands of ways our teammates give back to and connect with local communities.

Relay For Life

Several Nucor divisions participate annually in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, through the organization’s National Corporate Team Program. Nucor’s teams are often recognized as top fundraisers for the event. According to one Nucor teammate, “I had been very involved in Relay for several years, but when Nucor became part of the National Corporate Team Program, it opened my eyes to the impact we were making on a much larger scale.”

Honor Flight

In September 2017, Nucor sponsored 108 American veterans through Honor Flight, an organization that helps America’s veterans visit the nation’s war memorials in Washington, D.C. The Honor Flight allowed for 16 World War II veterans, 20 Korean War veterans, 14 Vietnam War veterans, and one tri-war veteran to visit their memorials. Of the 50 veterans, 33 are Nucor relatives and two are retired Nucor Steel Utah teammates.

Nucor House

In 2012, Nucor partnered with CDS Monarch’s Warrior Salute to build a home for veterans transitioning back to civilian life while recovering from conditions like PTSD. Thanks to Warrior Salute and the support of the Penfield, New York, community, the 14-bedroom home was completed in the summer of 2012 and has been providing a home for our nation’s veterans ever since.

Teaming Up For Charity

Since 2007, several of Nucor’s Alabama divisions have come together to host the Nucor Charity Golf Classic for Children’s Hospital of Alabama. The 105-year-old hospital is the only medical center in the state dedicated solely to the care and treatment of children and serves as the primary site for University of Alabama at Birmingham pediatric care.

By 2017, the annual charity drive had raised nearly $3 million for Children’s Hospital of Alabama over more than a decade of tournaments.
